A Woman Whose Husband Isn't Allowed To See Boobs In Movies, And More Of This Week's 'One Main Character'
Every day, somebody says or does something that earns them the scorn of the internet. Here at Digg, as part of our mission to curate what the internet is talking about right now, we rounded up the main characters on Twitter from this past week and held them accountable for their actions.
Each day on twitter there is one main character. The goal is to never be it
β maple cocaine (@maplecocaine) January 3, 2019
This week's Main Characters include a Diet Coke obsessive, someone with strong feelings about British plugs and a woman whose husband cannot, under any circumstances, see Florence Pugh's breasts.

Ro Khanna
The character: Ro Khanna, Dem. US Rep from CA's 17th District, guy who loves a slow and satisfying vindication
The plot: Khanna commented on the recently concluded Republican presidential primary debate, and his tweet about Vivek Ramaswamy caught everyone's attention.
"A slow but satisfying vindication," Khanna wrote after calling Ramaswamy an example of "Obamaβs vision for a multiracial democracy" that is "seeping into our politics despite the intense backlash."
Somewhere @BarackObama must be smiling that a 38 year old son of Hindu immigrants running to the right of Trump is cribbing from him! Obamaβs vision for a multiracial democracy is seeping into our politics despite the intense backlash. A slow but satisfying vindication.
β Ro Khanna (@RoKhanna) August 24, 2023
The repercussion: There is no glory in clowning a public official, especially Americaβs finest. But how can people resist when they make it so easy? Khanna's take was weird, and people tried to tell him that.
This is such a weird take

Bailey Herde
The character: Bailey Herde, writer, juice enthusiast, service worker
The plot: Herde, a writer and presumably a service worker, tweeted her feelings about patrons who refuse to engage in even the smallest amount of small talk at her job.
βCanβt tell you how many times Iβve walked up to a table at work and said βhow are you doing todayβ only to be met with complete silence and a blank stare,β she wrote.
sorry if this is rude or whatever but i really hate people who refuse to endure even the tiniest bits of small talk. canβt tell you how many times iβve walked up to a table at work and said βhow are you doing todayβ only to be met with complete silence and a blank stare
β i want to bailey-ve πΈ (@been_herde) August 20, 2023
The repercussion: This take was a reasonable one β but some of the replies werenβt. While itβs hard to ignore mean comments on Twitter nowadays, majority of the responses were in solidarity with OPβs tweet and shared a similar sentiment.

as an anxious and introverted person i still agree with you pls donβt let anyone tell you youβre wrong lmao itβs just plain rude
β ruth π«π (@thebodyisablade) August 21, 2023
As someone who hates small talk this is very fair. Thereβs a difference between being kind and addressing someoneβs existence and making talk about the weather for 5 min. The latter is annoying, the former is just being a decent person

βOP didnβt make it clear that sheβs a server and not talking about approaching coworkers at an office thatβs differentβ actually i donβt think that matters because itβs still rude as shit to pretend someone, a server or a coworker, doesnβt exist who fucking raised you people https://t.co/5t38gjPB8L

This is what folks are mad about? Yall bugging. Service workers literally have to interact with yall on a regular basis. You can fucking speak some. Keep that energy for bosses that won't pay you enough, not the people yall barely tip for https://t.co/Y7SZtUluV7

Darsam
The character: Darsam, French Twitter user, plug enthusiast
The plot: As an American, I don't quite understand the thousands of years of hatred between France and the UK. If itβs akin to Michigan vs. Ohio State, or Yankees vs. Red Sox, then I kinda get it. But with one single tweet, we got an entire timeline of plug and socket discourse, about the differences between chargers that go into a wall. Here in the US, theyβre round, while apparently theyβre flat in some European places. Itβs no big deal, but to this Twitter user? The biggest deal of all time.
Britons will look you straight in the eye and say "ueah that's a normal power outlet wdym?" pic.twitter.com/TJi4mRdAGA
β Darsam π«π· πΉ (@Darsam12_) August 20, 2023
The repercussion: Why did they have to bring Brits into this? Our resident Brit and super editor Darcy flagged this OMC candidate and now I get the duty and honor of having to sift through all of these tweets. Apparently the French equivalent of the plug is even worse. Who knew! Iβve never been to Europe.
But, to summarise, British plugs have a lot of defenders! Good to know.

Diet Coke lady
The character: Ally Shapiroβs friend, Diet Coke lover, Euro traveler, bad packer
The plot: Americans in Europe is a genre in itself, but TikToker Ally Shapiroβs friend unlocked a new level of FOMO by packing a full suitcase of Diet Coke, claiming that they have Coke Zero and Light there, but no Diet.

β tony (@queersofbravo) August 20, 2023
The repercussion: Obscene food and beverage TikTok content has had its moments, and people are slightly more aware of the trolls nowadays, but itβs safe to say that this one caught everyone by surprise.

@thatsnotlove
The character:@thatsnotlove, TikTok user, person with issues around nudity
The plot: βOppenheimerβ discourse is back! And this time, itβs about Florence Pughβs boobs.
On Sunday, a Twitter user shared a video in which TikTok user @thatsnotlove detailed her experience watching the movie in the cinema with her husband. She explained that she and her husband discussed the filmβs nude scenes beforehand and made a plan, and that when a naked Pugh appeared on screen, her husband would close his eyes and put his head on her shoulder.
this actually makes me feel like iβm losing my mind pic.twitter.com/gOZIbxz1mF
β bethany (@fiImgal) August 20, 2023
The womanβs TikTok account, which is now private, reportedly focuses on explaining why porn is bad and why husbands watching it basically amounts to cheating. While the whole thing is super weird and cringe, itβs also obviously very unhealthy to feel betrayed by your husband seeing breasts in a movie, and I feel bad for both people in this couple.
The repercussion: Peopleβs reactions were basically, βwhat the fβk?β. Some people also pointed out the irony of being offended by boobs in a film about the creation of the most destructive weapon mankind has ever known.
