Here at Digg, we try our best to cover the most important and confounding memes that come across the timeline. But the web is littered with tons of great memes that never quite hit the mainstream and instead just bounce around the weird corners of Twitter or Reddit. Enter our recurring feature, Memes, Ranked.
This week, the best memes include people's reasons for being single, jokes about a prominent, bandana-wearing author and reactions to NYT's word game prank.
4. Hailey Van Lith
The Meme
Last year's biggest college basketball game was the March Madness game between Iowa and LSU. Iowa has the superstar of women's sports — and arguably all sports — Caitlin Clark. Iowa and Clark lost last year's game, and this year's rematch in the tournament was even bigger.
Clark put on a show, and the player guarding her (or attempting to guard her, I guess) was LSU's Hailey Van Lith. She just couldn't contain Clark, and the single image of her shrugging encapsulated what it feels like to try and stop one of the best scorers in basketball history.

3. David Foster Wallace
The Meme
X user Josh Sherman recently shared an innocuous post on the app in which he expressed surprise at the appearance of author David Foster Wallace. "Seems insane that David Foster Wallace looked like this," he wrote, alongside one of the more recognizable pictures of the writer — and the post sparked a cascade of inane reproductions, inside jokes and all-round nonsense.
I wish there was something deeper to this one — maybe there is — but I can't find it. I guess it's the bandana-wearing archetype that got people going.

2. NYT Connections
The Meme
On April Fool's Day, The New York Times reimagined its "Connections" game by swapping all of its usual words with emojis. Naturally, it took a minute for fans to realize what day it was — and with reactions ranging from praise to outrage, the gimmick worked.

1. Reasons I'm single
The Meme
On the weekend, X user @rarecray (real name Dan) shared a photo of himself to the platform, along with a nine-point list of reasons why he's single. Among the reasons listed were "I care too deeply," "I have so much energy" and "I give my all to people who don't give me half back."

— Dan (@rarecray) March 29, 2024
People were inspired by Dan's very sincere — and fairly self-pitying — post, and started sharing their own (both real and invented) reasons for not being in a relationship.
